8/15/2023 0 Comments Aax plugin![]() I could definitely be wrong about that, but I haven't seen anything personally that would make me think that would be the case. I'm not a developer but I don't think I've come across anything to suggest that developing native versions of AAX plugins should be any more cumbersome for developers than AU or VST. Fab Filter says native updates coming very soon, Softube says they generally don't develop for beta DAW releases because so much can change, etc. Over on the DUC some people have posted responses from a few different developers about this. It's just conjecture on my part but I wouldn't be surprised if most plugin developers release updates for their AAX plugins to run natively in the next 2-3 weeks once they're back to work after the holidays and whatnot. I was honestly surprised how many of my go-to plugins did work right away (UAD, Liquid Sonics) or had day one updates available to make the AAX version native as well (Waves). PT native has only been out for like 4 days, and it's still just in public beta. I think part of the issue is that most other daws have been running natively for awhile, so plugin manufacturers have had plenty of time to update their AU, VST versions to also run natively. ![]() I just hope we’re not going to find out that plugins are not going to be backwards compatible-if I own a plugin from a developer that no longer exists, meaning there will never be an update, will it ever work in Apple silicon mode? Shouldn’t Protools be able to run in silicon mode, but still run some plugins through Rosetta? As far as I know, that’s how it works in all other DAWs, if you are running logic on an M1 based computer, and you load a plugin that hasn’t been updated for silicon yet, it just runs through Rosetta, and everything is aces… is there something fundamental about AAX plugins that will prevent that from being an option here or is that likely on the way in later updates of PT? I also wonder if later protools updates will just do a better job of reading the Apple silicon ready plugins that actually are ready for use. My guess is that most plugin developers will need to release a new update of their AAX formatted plugins with an Apple silicon native option built in so protools can determine which version to load, but that’s just a guess. The Avid website claims that many of the plugins that aren’t working should be working, so clearly something is not… well… working. However, that is clearly not the case with AAX plugs, which seem to need to mostly be reinstalled at the very least to even show up in protools silicon-but even then, most of them don’t actually load, and many are deemed “broken” by protools. This happened immediately, and as far as I know, was flawless. AU plugins and VST seem to all be working fine as silicon versions in silicon native DAWs, as Rosetta intel plugins for those that haven’t released an M1 native build yet, or purely as intel in DAWs running through Rosetta 2. r/MixClub /r/ListenToThis /r/Music /r/RadioReddit /r/LearnMusic /r/Reasoners /r/AudioPost /r/GameAudio /r/RateMyAudio /r/StudioPorn /r/SFXLibrariesĭoes anyone have any actual information from plugin manufacturers or developers about what this transition will actually entail? It seems like converting AAX plugins is going to be a much bigger hurdle to jump than converting VST and AU formats were.
